Our mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, we strive to achieve two overarching goals: To bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.
Our Programs
Our programs and approach support community needs through our network of supported public health facilities, PIH Lesotho programs reach approximately 120 000 people in rural hard to reach areas, we serve the entire population of Lesotho through different programs and receive and treat MDR TB patients from the whole country.
PIH Lesotho treats stable patients through community model of care. Very sick patients are admitted at Botšabelo hospital and Extended care is offered at halfway homes (Malaeneng).

The PIH Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) program is designed to support children under the age of 18 who have lost one or both parents - particularly those whose parents have died from multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and/or are at risk due to neglect or abandonment.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Lesotho was importing oxygen from South Africa. As a response to the global COVID-19 pandemic, PIH Lesotho constructed an oxygen plant to increase accessibility of medical oxygen.

Rural Initiative (RI) was launched in 2006 to support HIV care and treatment in 7 rural health facilities; Nohana, Nkau, Bobete, Methalaneng, Manamaneng, Tlhanyaku, Lebakeng in the most hard-to-reach mountainous areas of the country. The health facilities are located in four districts of Mokhotlong, Thaba Tseka, Qacha’s Nek and Mohale’s Hoek. Since then, PIH Lesotho has expanded to provide comprehensive primary health care including Tuberculosis (TB), Maternal and Child Health (MCH), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), and Mental Health services. Our approach also prioritizes preventive services such as immunization, health education, and nutrition programs, strengthening the foundation for healthier communities.

The TB Elimination Project is a strategic initiative aimed at achieving tuberculosis elimination by implementing the innovative “Search, Treat, and Prevent” approach in targeted areas. Over five years, PIH Lesotho seeks to detect and treat an additional 5,151 people with TB, significantly reducing TB incidence and advancing toward national elimination goals.

The medical world is filled with jargon, long words, and complicated definitions. And acronyms trying to make it all less confusing. That’s true at Partners In Health (PIH) too, but our hope is to make things clear, for supporters and patients alike.
When we talk about tuberculosis (TB), many of those words arise. Simply put, TB is a common infectious disease. However, there are other related terms we often use that are important to know and understand.
At 36 weeks pregnant, Ntsoane Mofao faced a daunting decision. Her village, situated in a remote area of Lesotho, was miles away from the nearest health facility.
